He was hailed as the "Local Jazz Hero" after bringing home the grand prize of London International Jazz Competition for Vocalists in Cadogan Hall in London's Sloane Terrace last March 23, 2006.
Mon David, a talented Kapampangan bagged the supreme title against 106 vocalists from 27 countries. From over a hundred applications gathered around the globe, only six finalists were chosen to compete on the finals night of this prestigious event. They were Torsten Goods (Germany), Karlie Bruce (Australia), Dan Barnett (Australia), Heidi Martin (USA), Alison Wedding (USA), and Mon David (Philippines). Their performances were supplemented by the best jazz artists in the UK: Jeff Clyne, Peter Churchhill and Trevor Tomkins.
David set out his piece with some ethnic chant then singing the first lines of "Nature Boy" in a capella followed by "My One and Only Love" and "Lullaby of Birdland". Aside from the Best Jazz Vocalist of LIJC 2006 title, he also got a cash prize of 1,000 euros plus commitment in the Jagz (Ascot) and the 606 Club (Chelsea).
The Philippines recognized the extraordinary gift of David as he garnered the Best Vocal Arrangement and Best Jazz Recording for his masterpiece ‘Let Go' from the recent Awit Awards.
A true blue jazz genius, David is continuously receiving blessings from above. He just released his new album "My One and Only Love" consisting of 12 tracks of his magnum opus including songs he performed at the London Jazz Competition.
