Several questions would come into mind when one wants to go on a vacation. Where do I go? How do I get there? What kind of activities can I do there? These are common questions, but surprisingly not even search engines can provide answers for wondering wanderers. These questions are laid to rest as we take you to our new destination: Batad, Ifugao.
HOW TO GET THERE
From Manila, one can take the bus Autobus, which is stationed along Aurora Boulevard, Cubao. The fare during peak season is around Php 416.00, with the bus taking you directly to Banaue. There are two stopovers— one in Bulacan and the other in Nueva Viscaya. The travel will take six to seven hours, depending on the traffic situation.
From Banaue, one has to take a jeepney or a tricycle to the place they call “the saddle”, which is the drop-off point and where hiking thrill starts.
On-call tour guide services cost around Php 500.00 for the whole day. This can be divided amongst the individuals who go there as a group.
PEOPLE AND INDUSTRIES
For the most part, the locals engage in agriculture and weaving. Batad, in particular is known for its fine-weaving.
ACCOMODATIONS AND SIGHTS TO SEE
Overnight stay in hotels ranges from Php150.00-200.00 per head. These are fairly reasonable given the sights to see in the area.
The Banaue rice terraces is a common tourist spot in this area. Treated as an ancestral heritage by the indigenous people, this wonderful, hand-made landscape never fails to captivate sight-seers.
The Tappia Falls, also known as Batad Falls, is also a favorite destination. With its cool water, visitors enjoy taking a dip in the pool beneath the falls and even use the coolness of the water to chill their drinks. Surrounding the area, and found even along the trek are the diverse flora and fauna.
With these wonderful places to go to, one can swim, hike or just plainly relax under the wonderful spell of tranquility. If there is one word that speaks of the honesty of its beauty, Batad, Ifugao in one word is MAGNIFICIENT.
